I'm not sure if you'd consider this advertising, but I'd like to gush over my housemate, Christa. She's an exceptional ceramicist who specializes in sculptural teapots. They are functional too, yes. christaassad.com/gallery/ (If you do a Google search on her, you'll find many galleries and even a video of an exhibition.) I find her work to be fascinating in that many of her pieces look like they would be made out of steel or iron or some other medium other than clay. I love the clean lines too. She also does looser pieces, incorporating more organic shapes and colors, but still including uniform texutures. Very structural and solid.
I'm gushing because she was recently featured on the cover of American Craft magazine and I thought it was very exciting! If you're interested in reading the interview/article: americancraftmag.org/article.php
If you're in the bay area, she'll be participating in the Berkeley Open Studios in a few weeks at "fourth & clay". www.berkeleyartisans.com/
So, since I gushed, maybe you could share who your favorite potter is? Any artists that specialize in teapots/-cups/-bowls/etc. that you like? Why do you like them?
(and if you consider this advertising, I don't mind deleting the thread - just let me know, thanks.)
