My best friend gave me a box of her African Dawn Roobios tea which she brought back to the states from South Africa. This stuff is out of control! I tried Roobios tea for the first time several months ago (imagine that?!) at her house (the same stuff) and wondered how I could have been missing out all this time! I then proceeded to try out different brands of Roobios teas and they all sucked. Every single one of them! The African Dawn is the only Roobios I have tried that only requires one tea bag, and you can get two cups out of it! Its super strong, just the way I like it. Not weak like the other crap being passed off for "gourmet tea" and charging 7bux a pop.

so... where can you get this stuff, other than going directly to South Africa?? I have had a couple of different roobios teas and thought they were fairly good -- so i would LOVE to try the 'real deal' :)

Rooibos tea is sweet in taste, caffeine free and has many health benefits. Rooibos is very delicious with Orange, mint or blackberry. I use brands like Talbotttea or Adagio. Boil the water properly and use one teaspoon of rooibos and steep it for 8 to 10 min. It will taste better.

which other brands did you try?
I usually just try to buy it loose.
I've had it bagged and while the bagged brands I have are OK, I prefer the loose stuff.

i used to be a loose leaf tea snob and wouldn't think of using a bag, but i've gone soft :) I still have to say that I'm partial to loose leaf tea though -- it's just better, richer... prettier to look at :)

yeah if I'm feeling lazy I'll just use bagged rooibos.
I've heard that if you let the Rooibos steep for longer than 10 mins you get more antioxidants that way.
I don't know if it's true or not but it makes it stronger than steeping it for 3-5 mins.

I'm a fan of Mighty Leaf's African Nectar. It's the tea that initially turned me on to Rooibos. A bit expensive, but I can usually use the bags more than once (I know, everyone is probably recoiling in horror).

I'll have to check out the other brands mentioned here.

When you're making rooibos tea should you use boiling water or hot water like you would for green tea?

Also I hear that you should steep it for 10 minutes, is this correct?

anyone here try the Rooibos "Red Expresso"? www.redespresso.com/ Someone around the office was mentioning that they heard it's a richer version of rooibos that has been refined and can be put through a coffee maker or french press.

I had red espresso at a cafe once, I tried a sip of it hot from a friend and it was yummy, I has a glass of it cold mixed with apple juice and it was very refreshing and delicious.
