Does anyone know the shelf life of white tea?
I found some white tea, a lot less than an ounce of loose leaf, from the spring of 2005 and it's been kept in a small airtight canning jar.
Is it still good or should I just throw it out?
I've heard that some teas get better with age while others don't and that some teas can be kept in jars for years without degrading. Is this true?
Also what are the shelf lives of other teas like green tea, black, tea, and red tea? All loose leaf of course.

Sun, April 6, 2008 - 9:50 AMThey basically never expire but after a year or so you'll lose tons of flavor, some get worse in months especially if they are not stored properly. But if you use a fairly air tight opaque container kept in a cool dry place that stuff keeps for a long time and only the very discriminating palette will care.

Sun, April 6, 2008 - 3:44 PMWhite and green teas are more sensitive than black or puerh teas, but unless it has mold it won't hurt you to try it and see. Some people have been very pleasantly surprised by forgotten tins of black tea that aged very well. I suspect your white tea won't have much flavor left, but try it and see! Mon, April 7, 2008 - 8:24 PMAccording to Porte Rouge and Marriage Frere - it's smart to keep them in a cool, dry place out of direct and even indirect sunlight (no glass containers or plastic containers that are see-through) as that can ruin the flavor and make it dry out faster even in a canister.
