I really like my tea nice and hot and i like it to stray that way for a long time. But I don't like metallic thermos style cups I prefer ceramic. Can anyone recommend a good heat retaining mug? Thank you.

Wed, November 1, 2006 - 12:28 PMYeah I agree there. Now if someone made a big version of that and pref with a handle I'd be all set :) I'll be in Japan next week so maybe I'll look there for cool tea stuff. -

Re: best heat holding mug
Wed, November 1, 2006 - 4:04 PMYou can get fairly large ones that are supposed to be for men. As for the handle...that may be a problem ; ) You might have to learn to hold your mug from the rim : )

Re: best heat holding mug
Thu, November 2, 2006 - 6:23 AMI just got the Republic of Tea catalog in the mail (just go to their website and sign up).
They have double walled glass mugs, no handle, in 3 sizes: 5, 9, and 12 oz.
They are made by Pavina.
Here's the link on their website:
www.republicoftea.com/templat...tory.asp
You may be able to get the smaller sizes elsewhere for less, but the catalog says the larger size is exclusive to Republic of Tea.

Re: best heat holding mug
Sun, November 5, 2006 - 9:09 PMI have hot earthenware cup cradle that keeps my hot cups of tea piping hot for a long time.
I got mine in a little peublo blanco in Andulusia that is specially known for its production of this very unique and practical device.
Luckily the cup came with it for I do not know if any others would fit it.
Very simple and elegant. The shephards keep them in their huts where they make a curious brew of cork and mimosa and sunflower.
It keep it warmed in my wood oven and remove it with an oven mit on chilly autmun nights after I've been roving the surrounding cowpastures deep in earthmother prayer. I realise that this is not strictly what you'd call a heat-holding mug but in my opinion it is this arrangement that is superior to what you are seeking. Shanti.

Tue, November 7, 2006 - 10:25 AMI saw a thermos bottle with strainer today with steel on the outside and Yixing porcelain on the inside. This was at Beijing's Tea City though, don't know if it's available in the US! -

Re: best heat holding mug
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 10:52 PMi'm loyal to my goodwill mug. cheap and thick ceramic. but the trick i learned as a server is simple and effective:
pour boiling water into your mug and let it sit as you prepare your drink. just giving your mug that leg up helps keep your liquid hot longer.
