What do you all think of buying teas from the bulk section? In SF, we have a great health food store called, Rainbow Grocery. They have lots of teas in bulk. And of course, the herbs are in bulk as well, so buying herbals can be an adventure and creating new blends.
If you buy from the bulk section, how have you found the quality and/or what are the pros and cons? Also, if you blend your own teas, do you have any combos that you'd like to share?

Re: Teas from the bulk aisle
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 5:59 AMTeas in bulk is the way to go, if you are buying good quality tea from a reputable tea purveyor.
Rainbow is not a tea specialist, but my experience with them (a few years back, when I lived in the Bay) was they they sold some great teas in bulk. Use your senses, how does it look, smell, etc. The nice thing about bulk is you can buy small quantities to test it out and see what you like. -

Re: Teas from the bulk aisle
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 1:32 PMfor me, organic in bulk seems hard to find at times. other then that, bulk for sure, saving the $'s.
blends...i am a big fan of Roobis, red tea. i tend to always have that one in the mix, with various herbs depending on what i feel i need or simply taste. i also like adding various flowers or fruits. -

Re: Teas from the bulk aisle
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 10:31 AMGood to know! Thanks! I tried a jasmine there. Its okay, but not as good as I've had. Ya just never know what the turnover is like in bulks. As much as I like to avoid packaging, I'll still go to the small tea shops or order online to get the good stuff.
